Discussion on Memory & Creative Practices

Kun-Yang Lin August 20, 2021

Kun-Yang showed his latest choreographic work to Pallabi to allow her to have a sense of his artistry, movement capabilities and discuss how he creates a work.

The two talk about Gus' recent 16 verb prompt, which was in contrast to both Pallabi and Kun-Yang's typical processes for developing movement material. They decided to continue to work on the prompt together.

Memory challenges were revealed as an issue faced by all artists but has gradually evolved into being more embraced than feared. The collaborators are experiencing the challenge with openness, seeing where each new engagement takes them and reviewing each videographer’s footage to reflect and determine its effectiveness as a memory aid.

During the group Zoom meeting in March, Kun-Yang, Pallabi and Gus expressed how the project encounters have been enjoyable and inspiring, as it is not often mature artists have the ability to talk, move and experiment over many months with one another without an end product.
